Zambia, DRC officials to meet over trade

The Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry says it will next month have a meeting with the Democratic Republic of Congo to see how the two countries can progress with the trade agreements and increase trade.
Ministry Permanent Secretary Kayula Siame says her ministry is planning to do the same with Angola as the country has expressed interest in some Zambian products.
She has however indicated that infrastructure is a limiting factor when it comes to trading with other countries.
Ms. Siame says it is difficult to set up and transport goods to newly found markets due to poor road networks.
She has therefore noted the need for her ministry to coordinate with the Ministry of Transport and Communications to prioritize key areas when new agreements are made with other countries.
The Permanent says despite this that the country is moving in the right direction but that the progress is slow.
“I think we are moving in the right direction, Yes, I do wish we could move a bit faster, so that we can see the trade coming in much faster,” she says.
