The Center for Trade Policy and Development (CTPD) says appointing of the Chief Executive Officer for the Zambia Airways 2014 Limited is step in the right direction towards the launch of the airline this year.
The Board of Directors of Zambia Airways (2014) Limited which sat for its inaugural Board meeting on Thursday, appointed Bruk Endeshaw Abebe, as the Chief Executive Officer for the national airline.
Mr Abebe has 24 years’ experience in the aviation industry and is currently Regional Director Sales and Services, Southern African Region for Ethiopian Airlines.
CTPD Head of Programs Brian Mwiinga has told Money FM News in an interview that appointing the CEO for the airline is an indication that the airline is about to be launched.
Mr Mwiinga says without the appointment of the CEO it was going to be difficult for government to launch the national airline.
He says the appointment of the CEO shows that the government is sticking to what it promised last year.
“We would have appreciated if the appointed CEO was Zambian, because Zambia has a lot of qualified people that are able to manage the airline,” said Mr. Mwiinga.
“Lessons from Malawi indicate that the Malawi airline is losing out from the partnership with Ethiopia airline.”
He says the organization hopes that the country will get positive results from the airline despite the CEO not being Zambian.
