Timber Producers urges govt to explore timber industry

The Timber Producers Association of Zambia (TPAZ) has called on the government to make sure that Zambia fully benefits from timber industry by formulating favourable policies.
TPAZ Vice President Charles Masange says other countries are earning revenues from the timber industry because of good policies.
Mr. Masange says Zambia is blessed with timber species such as Rosewood, Mukula and other valuable species that have market in the international market.
He said the timber industry has potential to contribute to Zambia’s economy just like other sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, mining, construction and tourism.
Mr. Masange said one way to explore the industry is actualizing the Zambia Auction Floors in all the ten provinces.
He added that for Zambia to benefit more from the timber industry, there is need for relevant ministries to ensure that they collaborate well and grow the industry.
