We don’t need to cuddle anyone into paying Taxes – ZRA

The Zambia Revenue Authority has noted that they do not need to cuddle anyone into paying their taxes as it is a moral obligation.
ZRA corporate Communications Manager Topsy Sikalinda says the payment of Taxes is a legal requirement that every business knows about before getting into industry.
The Authority recently intercepted 50 trucks carrying Ethanol, Cooking oil and Salaula worth K42.3 million in taxes.
The authority says the trucks have been issued with seizure notices in accordance with section 141 and 142 Chapter 322 of the Customs and Excise Act for breaking the law.
ZRA Corporate Communications Manager Topsy Sikalinda tells Money FM News that out of these trucks, 8 were transporting ethanol but deliberately declared as methanol with intent to defraud the state of over K10.9 million kwacha in taxes.
Meanwhile the Zambia Tax platform has urged the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) to come up with various strategies to encourage people in the country to pay for taxes.
Zambia Tax Platform National Coordinator Ibrahim Kamara has told Money FM News in an interview that most people in the country are reluctant to remit taxes due to limited payment system.
Mr. Kamara has since commended the authority for introducing electronic payment of taxes, adding that there is still the need for ZRA to keep sensitizing the members of the public about the need to remit taxes.
