ZRL spends K15 on signal and communication equipment

Zambia Railways Limited has revealed that it has paid about 15 million United States dollars to procure state of the art signal and communication equipment.
Company board Chairperson Lubinda Linyama says this to enhance the company’s track safety record as derailment of locomotives has been the biggest challenge for the company.
Mr. Linyama the improved signaling and communication system will improve safety on the tracks and reduce derailments of locomotives.
He was speaking when he addressed delegates at the South African Reward Association (SARA) Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Mr. Linyama also says that a lack of modern signaling and communication equipment has negatively affected operations of the railway company as it has caused a delay in delivery of goods.
He has appealed to financing institutions and suppliers of signaling equipment to come up with an integrated system to deal with safety, communication and a state of the art clearing systems to help improve the performance of the rail transport in Zambia and outside.
