An Energy Expert has expressed confidence that Zambia will become a net exporter of Electricity in a few years’ time.
Johnstone Chikwanda who is also Chairperson-Energy Institute of Zambia says the energy diversification agenda that government has embarked on will play a significant role in becoming an exporter.
Mr. Chikwanda says diversifying energy sources will help mitigate the risks of climate change which is affecting hydroelectric power generation.
He has also cited the 750 Mega Watt Kafue Lower gorge and the 2000MW Batoka gorge power plants that will be online saying they will also contribute to the cause.
Mr. Chikwanda was speaking to Money FM news in a telephone interview.
Finance Minister Magaret Mwanakatwe is on record as having said that Zambia will become a net exporter of electricity in five (5) years’ time.
