The Rural Electrification Authority (REA) has revealed that the number of households connected to the 60-kilowatt Mpanta mini-grid has reduced.
REA director Engineering Services Director Patrick Mubanga says about 450 households were connected, which is the targetted number of households to be connected.
Mr. Mubanga says people are being charged a fixed tariff of 4 to 10 dollars a month and the response from customers is positive.
The 60-kilowatt Mpanta mini-grid is located in Samfya District Luapula Province and begun its operations in 2013.
The Project was constructed at an approximated cost of 1.2 million US dollars with a fixed tariff of 4 to 10 USD per month
Mpanta is managed by the community in the district through Kafita Cooperative Society.
