University of Zambia Lecturers and Researchers Union ( UNZALARU) says it will seek legal redress from the courts of Law to have the recognition agreement reversed following it’s termination by government.

Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Union General Secretary Dr Kelvin Mambwe has described as unfortunate the decision by government to approve the application by the University of Zambia Management to have the Union’s recognition agreement terminated.
Dr Mambwe says it is regrettable that the ministry of Labour and Social Security has decided to terminate the recognition agreement for the union.

“We feel whatever we said was not breach of law and we are going to seek legal redress from the courts of law and we know the court will reverse this termination because it’s unfair” He said. 
He added that on several times the University of Zambia Management breached the agreement and the breaches have been committed by management as far back as 2008.

“It’s unfortunate that government had to approve the application by the University of Zambia Management to have the have the Union’s recognition agreement terminated” Dr Mambwe said.
Dr Mambwe noted that currently the school management owes union members unpaid gratuities and pensions for as far back as 2011.
“For example failure to pay a salary on a prescribed date is a breach of law and failure to pay pensions and gratuity when it falls due is a breach of law” He said.

On Saturday the Ministry of Labour and social security terminated the recognition agreement for the University of Zambia Lecturers and Researchers Union on grounds of breaching the labour and industrial relations Act.
