Zambia Chamber of mines says electricity supply to KCM will not be disrupted.

The Zambia Chamber of Mines says electricity supply to Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) has not been disrupted because the Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) and the mining firm are still in the consultation process.

Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Chamber Chief Executive Officer Sokwani Chilembo, said according to information made available to them, KCM will continue to be supplied with electricity without any disturbance.
“We have to consult, but from what we know electricity will still be supplied to KCM,” Chilembo.

Mr Chilembo adds that the Chamber is currently in negotiation with both companies over how best the two entities can address the matter because they are both members of the Zambia Chamber of mines.
“Consultations are in process with both mines, as you know they are both our
members,” He added.

Yesterday the Copperbelt Energy Corporation announced that effective today 1st June 2020, discontinue the supply of power to Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) as their power supply agreement came to an end on 31 March 2020 and has not been extended through mutual agreement.
