ZAFOD nods livestock empowerment for the disabled

Zambia Federation of Disability (ZAFOD) says the decision by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock to empower disabled persons with livestock will help alleviate poverty among the targeted group.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Organization Director Justine Bbakali said the direction government has taken is highly commendable because people living with disabilities are among the poorest in the country.
Mr. Bbakali stated that the disabled should be part of the priority groups whenever government is carrying out empowerment programs.
“That is the way government is supposed to go, the empowerment of persons with disabilities should be one of those groups that should be prioritized.”
“You will realize that Persons with disabilities are among the poor of the poorest, so empowering them with that kind of support will go a long way,” Mr. Bbakali said.
He urged government to continue with such kind of empowerment programs so that persons with disabilities can completely come out of abject poverty which most of them have been living with for a long time.
Early this week, the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock Nkandu disclosed that the Ministry is targeting to empower people living with disabilities with 1-hundred and 26 thousand chickens.
Professor Luo said the chickens are being handed over alongside goats, cattle and rabbits to help the disabled as startup capital.
