Zambia’s total Covid-19 cases stand at 11, 148

Ministry of Health says the country has recorded 66 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours out of 346 tests conducted, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 11, 148.
Speaking during the routine updates, Ministry Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Dr. Kennedy Malama said this is a far much bigger drop in new cases compared to yesterday, although Lusaka and Copperbelt are still epicenters.
Dr. Malama stated that among the 61 patients currently admitted to Levy Mwanawasa isolation centre, 34 are on oxygen support while two are on ventilators under the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
He added that 146 patients have been discharged, bringing the cumulative number of recoveries to 10, 208.
“This is a far much bigger drop compared to yesterday. We continue reviewing the situation as a response team, we assure you we will continue doing our best to ensure that we attain those targets of testing per day which we have set ourselves.”
“Therefore, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the country stands at 11, 148, including 280 deaths and 10, 208 recoveries. The rest of the country also continues recording new cases, this includes urban, Peri-urban and rural parts of our country,” Dr. Malama said.
He said 38 are admitted outside Lusaka with 19 on Oxygen, adding that the country did not record any death in the last 24 hours, hence the death toll still stands at 280.
“No facility deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, the cumulative number of death linked with Covid-19 remains at 280 of which 89 have been classified as Covid-19 and 191 Covid associated deaths,” he stated.
Dr. Malama also observed that one of the positives seen in the country’s response to the pandemic is the significant improvement in the recovery rate.
The Permanent Secretary explained that the recovery rate continues to be above 85% consistently, a move he says is commendable to the response team.
