Ministry of Health has disclosed that 147 people have been discharged from various Covid-19 isolation facilities, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 10, 840.
Speaking during the routine Covid-19 updates, Ministry Permanent Secretary for Administration Kakulubelwa Mulalelo also disclosed that the country has recorded 225 new Covid-19 cases out of 1, 400 tests done in the last 24 hours.
Ms. Mulalelo said the new cases were picked from Lusaka, Eastern, Southern, Eastern, Muchinga and Eastern Provinces, adding that the cumulative number of cases now stands at 11, 601, with 282 deaths.
“The 225 cases are from 13 districts as follows; Lusaka Province has in Lusaka district 155 whilst in Chongwe district 1 case. Muchinga Province we have 20 from Chinsali, and 8 from Mpika. In Southern Province we have 13 in Mazabuka, 8 in Chikankata, 7 from Monze, 5 from Kalomo, 3 from Choma, 1 from Kazungula and 1 from Zimba. In Eastern Province we have 2 new cases in Chipata and on the Copperbelt we have 1 new case from Ndola.”
“The cumulative number of deaths linked with Covid-19 remains at 282, all of which have been classified as follows; 91 deaths due to Covid-19 and 191 deaths associated with Covid-19. So to date, the cumulative number of Covdi-19 cases in the country stands at 11, 601” Ms. Mulalelo said.
She added that among the 48 patients currently admitted to Levy Mwanawasa isolation facility, 26 are on Oxygen support, 8 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while 1 is on a ventilator.
Ms. Mulalelo further revealed that outside Lusaka, 32 patients are admitted to various isolation facilities and 10 are on Oxygen support.
Meanwhile, Ms. Mulalelo reaffirmed government’s commitment in ensuring that frontline health workers are provided with all the necessary requirements needed in executing their duties.
She said government will continue to invest in the health care system and in the health workers who drive it.
“We recognize the sacrifice that our health care workers are making in this response and applaud the commitment to duty. Our port health staff have worked tirelessly to minimize the importation of Covid-19 cases into the country, we appreciate their diligence in swabbing, screening, risk communication and documentation at our borders.”
“We will provide all the logistics that are required to facilitate the conduct of your duties including adequate PPEs, appropriate accommodation for all our colleagues working in the isolation facilities, transport for field teams and other incentives,” she stated.
