Fuel shortage looms in Ndola

Some motorists in Ndola have disclosed that fuel shortage is looming in the area as most vehicles continue to queue up for the commodity at some selected fuel service stations.
Speaking on behalf of other motorists, David Nyakaula attributed the looming gas shortage to the downing of tools by some truck drivers who are demanding improved conditions of service, among them salary increments.
Mr. Nyakaula told Money FM News in an interview that motorists have been spending longer hours queuing up for the commodity as there is only one filling station which has fuel.
“There is a shortage of fuel here on the Copperbelt. There is just one filling station down where Kaleni is, back town there that’s where the gas is and the queue is just too long. This is due to downing of tools by the truck drivers due to conditions of service and increment in their salaries.”
“They have been protesting for the past 4 or 5 days so their trucks are not moving, therefore the tankers are down so we can’t have the supply of fuel. This is the condition here in Ndola as I speak to you. I don’t know about other towns but here it’s very bad.
He said if left unchecked, the situation will get out of hand hence the need for government’s quick intervention.
And when contacted, Energy Regulation Board (ERB) Public Relations Manager Kwali Mfuni pledged to get more information from the Copperbelt office regarding the situation on the ground.
