With the Festive season at its peak, the Lusaka City Council has warned against underage beer drinking or patronage and sale of liquor to minors during Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Council Public Relations Manager George Sichimba says the Council is aware that minors tend to be excited this time of the year while liquor traders want to cash in by all means.
“The local authority is also aware that some pupils are completing their exams today and the excitement that comes with it may lead them to illicit behaviour,” he noted
Mr. Sichimba as such discloses that a combined team of stakeholders has been mobilized to conduct day and night operations up to 4th January, 2020.
He says the team will enforce the Liquor Licensing Act No. 20 of 2011 and the Public Health Regulations among other Acts to monitor guidelines which include public smoking, noise pollution and Covid-19 among others.
Mr. Sichimba has since appealed to members of the public and business owners to be aware of the Council’s presence.
“It is not the wish of the Council to disrupt the festivities hence the need for everyone to follow set guidelines in their conduct of business to avoid inconveniences,” he said.
As Celebrations of the festive seasons are at their peak, it is best that every Citizen abided within the confinement of the Law.
