Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA) says it plans to grade about 200 hotel accommodation facilities this year.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Agency Communication and Corporate Affairs Manager Betty Mumba said this is following the opening of the Tourism sector by President Edgar Lungu in 2020.
Ms. Mumba however stated that the Covid-19 pandemic has disturbed the grading of hotels operating in the country, because a number of them closed and the grading is supposed to be conducted when the facilities are operational.
Ms. Mumba explained that during the grading exercise, the Agency looks at the quality of services that hotels and other tourism facilities are providing to members of the public once in operation.
“Covid-19 has really hampered the grading exercise, some of the hotels closed and usually when we conduct grading the hotel needs to be in operation because we have to look at the services that they are providing once the hotel is in operation.’’
“So now because the tourism sector was opened by his Excellency the President we have already scheduled a plan, we have targeted at least by the end of the year we should have graded about 200 plus hotel accommodation facilities, hoping that at least Covid-19 will be minimal in our country,” Ms. Mumba said.
