Lusaka City Council (LCC) has warned the public against Vandalism of Public Infrastructure such as Streetlights.
LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager, Thelma Mbewe told Money FM News in a statement that the council had noted with concern the increased number of streetlights being vandalized around the City especially in Mungwi Road and Madras Area of Kamwala where unscrupulous people are stealing solar panels and fittings from the infrastructure.
“This unfortunate situation is leading to the street lights not working to their full capacity,” she said.
Ms. Mambwe lamented it is regrettable that some people are vandalizing such development that is meant to benefit the citizenry and which should also be guarded by everyone.
“The Council would like to warn people with such ill motives that it is against the law to vandalize public property such as street lights and as such, they risk prosecution,” she warned.
She had since appealed to the general public to be alert and promptly report such incidences to the Police or Council.
