MQHZ warns of possible third wave of Covid-19

• Zambia might experience a third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
• The virus is very potent and people still get infected.
• Ministry of Health must still pursue the National Response to COVID-19.

Medical for Quality Healthcare in Zambia (MQHZ) has warned that the country might experience a third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic if people continue disobeying safety rules.
Organization Quality Assurance Director Dr. Mulenga Lwansa told Money FM News that with Zambia detecting its first Indian Covid-19 variant, there is need to realize that the virus is very potent and people still get infected.
Dr. Lwansa said the Ministry of Health must put more concerted efforts in ensuring that oxygen is available for patients in all the Covid 19 isolation facilities.
“Despite the arrival of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and the ongoing vaccination programme, we urge Government, through the Ministry of Health to still pursue the National Response to Covid-19 as originally conceptualized test, detect, trace, isolate and treat.”
“Furthermore, emphasis still remains on the realization of the potency of the virus and cumulative numbers of new infections recorded every day. It is also factual, that the vaccination process has only just begun but there is still a conceptual risk of facing a third wave as reported by some countries who have already recorded their third wave,” Dr. Lwansa noted.
He also urged all Zambians to continue observing Covid-19 protocols, stating that the organization will continue to emphasize the strict adherence to the non-pharmaceutical interventions of care and promote the ongoing vaccination process.
