ZEHEST nods creation of SME Ministry

• Creation of a Small and Medium Enterprises Ministry is a welcome move.
• This speaks to the UPND manifesto and Agenda of economic transformation and job creation.
• Entrepreneurship is the way to go to foster development in the country.

Zambian Empowerment Hub for Entrepreneurship and Skills Training (ZEHEST) says entrepreneurship has potential to transform the country’s economic outlook.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Organization Executive Director Clarence Muzyamba noted that a number of entrepreneurs in the country lack start-up capital, finances and equipment to actualize their projects despite being innovative.
Mr. Muzyamba commended government’s move to create a Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Ministry.
He said having an independent Ministry to specifically look into issues affecting SMEs is a good initiative.
“We are excited about the creation of a Small and Medium Enterprises Ministry by the UPND Administration. As Entrepreneurs, this is a welcome move. Entrepreneurship is the way to go to foster development in this country.”
“As ZEHEST, we find this as a good move to have an independent Ministry. This speaks to the UPND manifesto and Agenda of economic transformation and job creation,” Mr. Muzyamba said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Muzyamba urged government units designed to look into SMEs affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Trade to collaborate for efficiency purposes.
“Suffice to say that we have a unit looking at SMEs already at the Ministry of Commerce, we also have ZDA, CEEC is yet another unit of government that looks at SMEs’ development. We advise that all these units collaborate for efficiency purposes because if well embraced, entrepreneurship can transform our country’s economic outlook.”
“As an empowerment hub, we stand ready to supplement government efforts as we have now become the source of information for entrepreneurship and empowerment programs, projects and policies,” he added.
President Hakainde Hichilema has created some new Ministries among them is the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises which will be headed by Elias Mubanga.
