Take advantage of the population growth, economist urges

• Government must take advantage of the growing population by engaging in economic progress.
• A growing population can accelerate economic activities.
• The country’s GDP is likely to increase

An economist has advised government to take advantage of the country’s growing population by engaging in economic progress.
Maambo Hamaundu told Money FM News in an interview that a growing population can accelerate economic activities because there is enough human capital that can be utilized to enhance a country’s developmental agenda.
“At times a bigger population is better because the population creates demand, it creates a huge flow of demand as it is comprised of many consumers,” he said.
He explained that government must start planning to produce so that the country can satisfy the growing demand that has been created by the growing population.
He further said if this is done, the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is likely to increase resulting into a positive economic transformation.
“If we do that, we are likely to improve in terms of the GDP rate as it will be high, so a population can actually promote economic development because it is made up of consumers,” he concluded.
