Investigate Illegal Mining- Government urged

• Government to take keen interest in investigating foreign investors
• The country is not generating the much needed revenue from Mines due to rampant illegal
• There is need for Government to also heighten policies and regulations regarding exportation of minerals to deter illegalities.

Emerald and Semi- Precious Stones Association of Zambia has advised Government to take keen interest in investigating foreign investors who are illegally mining the country’s mineral resources.
Speaking to Money FM News, Association President Victor Kalesha said the country is not generating the much needed revenue from Mines due to rampant illegal mining activities.
Mr. Kalesha stated that there is need for Government to also heighten policies and regulations regarding exportation of minerals to deter illegalities.
He was responding to reports about an Indian who had a license to mine Manganese and Cobalt but was instead mining sugilite.
“The Zambia Police should not only rush into arresting the suspect but bring out the facts of the two Ministers that have been accused of protecting the investor, “he stated
Mr. Kalesha said Zambia has a variety of minerals which the Zambians are not benefiting from due to such illegalities.
“We are ready to do a peaceful protest if the names of the two Ministers will continue to be withheld, this will be done to protect our natural resources which we are losing daily,” he noted
Recently, United Party for National Development (UPND) Deputy Chairperson for politics and mobilization Trevor Mwiinde revealed that there were two Ministers who are protecting a foreign national who has a license to mine Manganese and Cobalt but was instead mining sugilite.
