AFRINET nods “Yes Vote” against Russia’s invasion

• The economy has been a subject of recession.
• As an organization as we stand by the majority vote
• Zambia believes in non-interference in internal politics of other countries.

Inter Africa Governance Network says global economy state of affairs demand for resolute and collective responsibility from the International Community.

AFRINET Executive Director Maurice Malambo told Money FM News that it was uncalled-for, for the International Community to subject the global economy to voidable turbulences in view of the fact that the economy has been a subject of recession in close succession with less or no time for full recovery from 2009 global credit crunch and now social-economic downside of Covid-19 Pandemic.

“It is our firm position as AFRINET that Russia and Ukraine must immediately engage in unilateral ceasefire and dialogue over the standoff because the military action under view is an act of gross irresponsibility as the ultimate ramifications of this military action are invasive not just to Russia and Ukraine but also the entire global economic order, more so the developing economies,” he stated.

Mr. Malambo had since stated that AFRINET stands firm with Zambia’s government and other sovereign republics that took a ‘YES VOTE’ in relation to a United Nations General Assembly Resolution against or in disapproval of Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine.

He said, “the record of which shows that the largest global assembly, the UNGA voted as follows; out of 193 countries, 141 voted in favor, 5 voted against, with 35 abstentions and 12 elected not take part in the vote. As an organization as we stand by the majority vote.”

Maurice Malambo further stated the rightful context of the UNGA resolution under view that “ it was in principle a motion against war or the killing of people, the human rights atrocities and property destruction of both countries Russia and Ukraine resulting from the military action. “

The Afrinet Executive Director explained that, the motion, ultimate vote and Zambia’s position does NOT entail a resolution or position regards the actual differences between the two countries that have led to the standoff, as Zambia believes in non-interference in internal politics of other countries or principles of Territorial Integrity stating that UNGA resolution in question is a clarion demand for an immediate ceasefire and dialogue between Russia and Ukraine.
