Lusaka based Company convicted, fined K45, 000

• Lusaka based company has been fined K30, 000.00 for dealing in herbal medicines without marketing authorization
• Fines an additional K15, 000.00 for placing for sale herbal medicines at a place other than a pharmacy
• Jonmaka Herbal Products Cosmetics & Food Supplements Limited was convicted on 11th March 2022.

A Lusaka based company has been fined K30, 000 for dealing in herbal medicines without marketing authorization and an additional K15, 000 for placing for sale herbal medicines at a place other than a pharmacy.
Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) Public Relations Officer Ludovic Mwape told Money FM News that this is in a matter where the Authority took Jonmaka Herbal Products, Cosmetics & Food supplements Limited to court for conducting business without authorization contrary to section 39 of the laws of Zambia.
Mr. Mwape said on 11th March 2022, the Company was convicted and fined K45, 000 to two counts by the Magistrate court.
“When the matter was brought before Honourable Faides Hamaundu at the Lusaka Magistrate Court, Jonmaka Herbal Products Cosmetics & Food Supplements Limited pleaded not guilty to the offense on 26th November 2021 and trial commenced which led the accused being convicted on 11th March 2022 and upon conviction the company was fined K45, 000. 00 to two counts in default a warrant of distress to be issued,” he said.
He has warned all those who commit similar offences to ensure that only herbal medicines registered and have marketing authorization are placed on the Zambian market.
“This is to ensure safety, quality and efficacy of medicinal products and allied substances being consumed by the Zambian people. Failure to adhere to the set standards as regards to the dealing and sale of herbal medicinal and allied substances will result in offenders being prosecuted,” Mr. Mwape added.
