ZACA calls for increased Swine Fever outbreak sensitization

• The local authority must ensure to investigate the sources of pork amongst people who conduct businesses on braai.
• Those are the people who would buy the pig which has died of Swine fever and be able to sale it to consumers.
• People who are eating pork please be careful where you are getting it from.

Zambia Consumer Association (ZACA) has called on the Public Health Department with the local Authority to step up their effort by ensuring the Public especially in local townships adhere to prescribed measures in the fight against African Swine Fever Outbreak in Lusaka Province.

ZACA Executive Secretary Juba Sakala told Money FM News in an interview that the local authority must ensure to investigate the sources of pork amongst people who conduct businesses on braai from local townships in premises such as bars among others.

“They might be getting the pork which has died because of Swine fever so we expect the Public health department to step up and also do the inspection among these people,” he said.

Mr. Sakala empathized on need not to only concentrate on chain stores but townships too.

“Those are the people who would buy the pig which has died of Swine fever and be able to sale it to consumers.” He said

Mr. Sakala had since called for increased sensitization on the Swine Fever outbreak from the Public health department and the media to prevent further outbreak of the disease to other provinces.

“Sensitize them that now there is Swine fever People who are eating pork please be careful where you are getting it from,” he stated.

His comment followed Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock ban on movement of all pig products, pigs and by products within and out of Lusaka province following African swine fever outbreak in the Province.
