Competition and Consumer Protect Commission (CCPC) says it has seized expired assorted energy drinks worth K1, 008 in Kabwe district of Central province.
Commission Public Relations Officer Rainford Mutabi revealed in a statement that the expired drinks were seized during an inspection done in collaboration with Kabwe Municipal Council, covering16 trading premises of Mukobeko and Kawama markets of Kabwe’s Central Business District.
Mr. Mutabi said the inspection, which was conducted on 3rd June, 2022 was aimed at assessing the traders’ compliance levels with the law.
He reiterated that selling or offering for sale products not fit for purpose or expired is against the CCPC Act No. 24 of 2010 and the Food and Safety Act No. 7 of 2019.
“The seized drinks include Sun Dance, Mojo and Yess drinks among others. The drinks were expired and therefore not fit for human consumption,” Mr. Mutabi said.
He added that the Commission in partnership with Kabwe Municipal Council and other relevant stakeholders will therefore continue to enforce the law in accordance with their respective mandates to ensure that consumers are protected from any unfair trading practices.
