Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) says it has arrested an officer from the Department of National Registration for corrupt practices involving over K30, 000.
ACC Spokesperson Queen Chibwe in a statement to Money FM News noted that Agrippa Himuyandi, 40, an Assistant Registration Officer under the Department of National Registration, Passport and Citizenship, of Chisonga Plots in Mongu, with three (3) counts of corrupt practices by Public Officer contrary tosection19 (1) of the Anti- Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.
Ms. Chibwe explained investigations revealed that between 1st August 2020 and 31st December 2020, Himuyandi, whilst working at Kasama National Registration Office, did contact a named individual to find ten other persons to be recruited to the National Mobile Registration Exercise which was to take place in Northern Province in preparation for the2021General Elections.
She narrated that three individuals were subsequently recruited, Investigations have established that Himuyandi solicited for K10, 000 from each of them and in fact did receive a total of K7, 000 cash gratification as an inducement or reward for facilitating their recruitment to the National Mobile Registration Exercise that took place in 2020 in Northern Province in preparation for the 2021 General Elections.
The ACC spokesperson disclosed that Mr. Himuyandi had since been released on Bond and would appear in court soon, further warning public officers to desist from engaging in corrupt practices indicating that “anyone found wanting will face the consequences of the law.”
“The Commission would like to further call upon members of the public to report any incidents of suspected corruption to the Commission,” said Mrs. Chibwe.
