Zambian Association of Citizen Contractors (ZACCO) has called on government to urgently come up with a program to rehabilitate the dilapidated transport infrastructure such as roads.
Speaking to Money FM News, Association General Secretary Danny Simumba said the rapid deterioration of roads across the country require immediate attention.
Mr. Simumba stated that the rehabilitation of dilapidated roads has trickledown effects in the construction industry because a number of young people can be employed through such projects.
“We would like to appeal to the new dawn administration to quickly come up with a program to rehabilitate the dilapidated transport infrastructure such as roads. The country has witnessed the rapid deterioration of the roads which require immediate attention.”
“The rehabilitation of these roads is not only beneficial to the new dawn administration agenda of transforming the economy, but also it has trickledown effect in the construction industry because a number of youths can be employed through such projects,” Mr. Simumba said.
He noted that implementation of the Public Private Partnerships (PPP) projects has been very slow, hence the need for government to ensure that a program is quickly put in place.
“We feel that the pace at which the triple P projects are being implemented is too slow to realize the benefits. We urge the new dawn government to ensure that a program is quickly put in place so that we begin seeing projects in the road sector and indeed in other sectors,” he added.
