Chingola Municipal Council has banned movement of pigs, pig products and by products within and out of the District due to an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the area.
Council Public Relations Manager Evelyn Mulenga disclosed to Money FM News that the Municipality received a letter from Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock indicating the outbreak of the animal disease in the district and several measures have since been put in place to curb the further spread of the disease in other parts of the province.
Ms. Mulenga explained that all pig slaughter and marketing facilities in Chingola have been closed, while pig products and by products selling points have been given permission to finish all stocks within 14 days after which they will not be allowed to restock until the outbreak is contained.
“The Municipality is in receipt of a letter from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock indicating the outbreak. Also, all pigs, pig products and by products found under contravening circumstances will be destroyed without compensation and persons in charge of these will be prosecuted,” Ms. Mulenga warned.
She urged residents to take precaution and take the notification with great importance.
