Freedom is not there – CRAZ

• Public Transport sector handed over to the private sector has brought misery to Citizens.
• It is like Zambia is under foreign captive.
• Economically, socially and above all just the freedom itself is not there.

Commuter Rights Association of Zambia says it is unfortunate that the country should celebrate its 58th year of independence without key factors of Independence celebration in the Transport sector to point at that were lost due to privatization.

Association President Aaron Kamuti told Money FM News in an interview that during the Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) period in 1990 the country lost it where all that was acquired during and after independence was sold to foreign hands with Public Transport sector handed over to the private sector a situation he describes has brought misery to Citizens.

Mr. Kamuti observed the country is still struggling economically in terms of putting things in order with Mining Sector, running of other companies and the Transport sector itself encompassed with the rail line that is state owned has been a challenge.

“It is very unfortunate that we should celebrate our 58 years of independence without those key factors of independence and something to celebrate about, it is having your own. But most of the things we have they are in foreign hands,” said Mr. Kamuti.

He said it is like Zambia is under foreign captive, yet to have full view that it is independent “economically, socially and above all just the freedom itself is not there.”

Mr. Kamuti was commenting ahead of Zambia’s 58th Independence celebration which would fall on the 24th of October 2022 under the theme, zambia@58 “promoting inclusiveness towards a sustainable social and economic recovery.”
