Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has dismissed media reports that it is investigating Finance Minister Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane and Infrastructure Minister Charles Milupi over alleged corrupt practices.
ACC Head of Corporate Communications Timothy Moono said the Commission is not investigating the two Cabinet Ministers over any alleged corrupt practices, as they have never been summoned for interrogation.
Mr. Moono explained that the reports stem from a media briefing held yesterday by Lumezi Member of Parliament and Secretary General for the African Parliamentary Network Against Corruption Munir Zulu.
He called on Mr. Zulu to furnish the Commission with more details of the alleged corruption involving the two Cabinet Ministers to pave way for investigations.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Minister of Finance and National Planning Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane said he will seek appropriate statutory remedies for the injury caused to his character by Mr. Zulu.
“It is important to note that law enforcement agencies, in the course of their duties, are free to invite any public official or otherwise to assist with information in an ongoing or planned investigation,” he said.
Dr. Musokotwane assured the public and stakeholders that in the course of implementing economic transformation programme and helping to better the lives of Zambians, the Government will remain committed to transparency, accountability and the rule of law now and in future.
On 21st October, 2023, Lumezi Member of Parliament and Secretary General for the African Parliamentary Network against Corruption Munir Zulu alleged that Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane and Engineer Charles Milupi received bribes amounting to US$250,000 each from a named firm over the construction of a road.
Mr. Zulu alleged that the two have been appearing before ACC secretly and that state house is aware.
He further challenged ACC to deny this information.
