Lusaka City Council (LCC) has apprehended seven street vendors for illegally selling their merchandise and food items along Freedom way and Chachacha roads.
Council Public Relations Officer Nyambe Bulumba said in a statement that the Local Authority conducted random inspections in the Central Business District to check on compliance levels with regards to street vending, and it was discovered that some people are still selling on the streets.
Mr. Buluma reiterated that street vending is prohibited according to Statutory Instrument Number 12 of 2019.
“The apprehended perpetrators have since appeared before the Fast Track Court at Lusaka City Council. Street vending is prohibited according to Statutory Instrument Number 12 of 2019 and as such, those found vending on the streets will be liable for imprisonment of not less than three months with hard labour,” Mr. Buluma stated.
