African Swine Fever puts pork value chain under threat

• Pig farmers should not hesitate to report to the nearest veterinary office upon noticing strange behavior on their animals.
• The killing of over 500 pigs in Chongwe that have been affected by the disease is a total set back.
• It will be challenging to see growth in this sector.

BuyZed Campaign says the outbreak of African Swine Fever in Chongwe district has placed the pork value chain under threat.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Organization Founder Evans Ngoma advised pig farmers not to hesitate to report to the nearest veterinary office upon noticing strange behavior on their animals.
Mr. Ngoma stated that the killing of over 500 pigs in Chongwe that have been affected by the disease is a total set back, as it will be challenging to see growth in this sector.
“To prevent this kind of outbreak going forward, we would like to urge all the pig farmers across the country that the moment they start noticing strange behaviors on their pigs, they must not hesitate to report to the nearest veterinary office. What we have seen happening in Chongwe, killing of over 500 pigs is total set back.”
“So now you can imagine if this farmer has not insured his animals, it means that they have gone back to zero and so to see growth in the pig sector, it will be a big challenge,” Mr. Ngoma noted.
