Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has destroyed assorted non-compliant products valued at K903, 930.
Speaking at Chunga landfill in Lusaka, Agency Head of Communications Brian Hatyoka said the products include adaptors, top plugs, shoe polish, electric cables, sockets, rubber condoms, incandescent bulbs, gear oil, used garments, household electrical and similar appliances.
Mr. Hatyoka stated that the products were seized in Lusaka during recent market surveillance inspections for not complying with relevant compulsory standards.
“Other products include clear beer, biscuits, peanut butter, edible oil, opaque beer, mealie meal, jams, and marmalades, wheat flour, animal feed , bottled water and fruit flavored drinks among others.”
“The disposal of non-compliant products is in line with the provisions of of the Compulsory Standards Act No. 3 of 2017,” Mr. Hatyoka stated.
He warned of stern action against entities that are either manufacturing or importing and supplying products on the market in contravention of applicable compulsory standards as such products may pose a risk to public safety, health and the environment.
“The Agency will continue conducting enforcement activities in a bid to ensure that only safe products are allowed on the market.”
“Consumers are also urged to buy products from reputable sources and report any suspicious product to the nearest Agency office,” he added.
