A Business and Political Analyst has urged radio broadcasters in the country to continue championing peace and stability as they join the globe in commemorating World Radio Day today Monday, 13th February, 2023.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Francis Chipili said peace is a pre-requisite for social and economic advancement of any society, therefore this year’s World Radio Day theme which is “Radio and Peace” means that the media through Radio must promote content that enhances societal peace.
Mr. Chipili noted that Zambia has been known as a beacon of peace and has a good reputation of being a peaceful nation which other countries within the continent, region and across the globe admire.
“The theme “Radio and Peace” is an important theme that media stakeholders must reflect on and attempt to interpret it accordingly. Peace is a pre-requisite for social and economic advancement of any society, and so radio and peace means that the media through the radio must promote content that enhances societal peace. When there is peace, humanity can advance their aspirations both and personal and national level,” Mr. Chipili noted.
He added that when there is peace, resources can be directed to needy areas, therefore the need for radio broadcasters to engage and promote content that will further enhance peace at community, national and global levels.
“When there is peace, when there is harmony in the nation, then humanity can advance, society can develop, and resources can be directed to needy areas other than to mitigation effects of violence, war and other conflicts. So Radio and Peace means that, you the media must ensure that as the fourth estate, through the radio platform, you engage and promote content that will further enhance peace at community level, national level as well as peace at global level.”
“As you know society now is interlinked, the communities are global village, whatever affects a small village in Zambia, may have a negative impact on another village or another city or another country across the globe,” he added.
Zambia has today Monday, 13th February 2023, joined the rest of the globe in commemorating World Radio Day under the theme; “Radio and Peace”.
