Economy Grows by 3.9 % during first three quarters of 2018

Statistics from the Central Statistical Office show that the Zambian Economy grew by 3.9 percent during the first three quarters of 2018 compared to the 3.6 percent recorded in the first three quarters of 2017.
CSO Acting Director for Census and Statistics Goodson Sinyenga says the Financial insurance activities contributed the highest growth with 1.1 percentage points.
He says the Agriculture; forestry & fishing industry had a negative contribution of negative 1.4 percentage points.
Mr. Sinyenga adds that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices in the first three quarters of 2018 was estimated at K200, 967.7 million compared to K173, 569.0 million recorded during the same period in 2017.
He says the Wholesale & retail trade, Mining & quarrying, Manufacturing, Transportation & storage and Construction industries were the main contributors, collectively accounting for 58.8 percent while the Arts, entertainment & recreation industry had the lowest share at 0.3 percent.
