Zambia’s drug availability rises to over 75 percent-ZAMMSA

  • ZAMMSA has received the fourth consignment of 7,050 health center kits.
  • This brings the cumulative total of Health Centre kits received since August 2023 to 28,200.
  • The country has seen the availability of essential medicines and medical supplies at primary healthcare facilities increase to above 75%.

 

Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) says the country’s drug availability now stands at over 75 percent after receiving  the fourth consignment of over 7,050 Health Centre Kits from Mission Pharma of Denmark.

Agency Senior Manager – Corporate Communications, Bradley Chingobe said in a statement that this brings the cumulative total of Health Centre kits received since August 2023 to 28,200.

Mr. Chingobe noted that the fourth batch of health Centre kits is the second consignment the Ageny has received in the last two months.

“It’s important to note that we received the last consignment on the 2nd of January 2024 from mission Pharma of Denmark.”

“As a result of this consistent supply and effective distribution of these Health Center Kits, the country has seen the availability of essential medicines and medical supplies (EMMS) at primary healthcare facilities increase to above 75%. The World Health Organisation (WHO) drug availability standard is recommended at 70%,” Mr. Chingobe stated.

He added that the appropriate distribution of the kits will commence as soon as the Certificate of Analysis clearance is granted by Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA).

“This will ensure that we are kept abreast with the established Pharmacovigilance practices at ZAMMSA.

“Notably, ZAMMSA services more than 3,400 healthcare facilities across the country and we, as usual, will ensure that all of these receive the kits in a timely manner.

“ZAMMSA remains committed to continue procuring, storing, and distributing medicines and medical supplies for a healthy and productive Zambia,” he stated.
