Ministry of Green Economy and Environment says achieving green growth will require enormous financial resources and the opportunity provided by innovative financing solutions such as green bonds and debt for nature swap.
Speaking when United Kingdom High Commissioner to Zambia Nicholas Woolley paid him a Courtesy call in Lusaka, Collins Nzovu stated that Government is confident that the innovations required in supporting the green economy provides an excellent opportunity to create green jobs for the youths.
Mr. Nzovu further commended the British government and the Securities and Exchange Commission for the development and gazetting of the guidelines for the issuance of green bonds, a major milestone.
He said the UK can count on Zambian government to partner with them in ensuring that the dream of having a maiden green bond issued sooner is realized.
“I wish to assure you that my office remains open to you as stakeholders and we will be open to greeting your suggestions and advise to ensure that we take our country forward,” said the Minister
Meanwhile, British High Commissioner to Zambia Nicholas Woolley disclosed that UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has disclosed that £100 million from the government’s Biodiverse Landscapes Fund will be invested in some of the most fragile ecosystem on earth.
Nicholas Woolley said of the six environmentally critical landscapes which are home to endangered and rare species across the globe to receive funding, tackle biodiversity loss and combat climate change include the Kavango Zambezi Transformation Area (KAZA).
He explained the KAZA spans five Southern African countries with 25% of the region located in Zambia which include National Parks of Kafue, Sioma Ngwezi, Mosi-oa Tunya and the adjoining game management areas and reserves.
“The announcement of this fund is an important step for UK support for people, nature, and climate in the KAZA region.” Said Nicholas Woolley.
According to him, “this fund will contribute to UK efforts to support the new Zambian administration deliver its commitments on building a vibrant eco-tourism sector while preserving the countries natural beauty and carbon sinks for future generations.”
