12k Energy Group to set up battery manufacturing company in Mansa

• Foundation stones in Rufunsa together with the Luapula Province in Mansa for 12k battery firm will be laid in June.
• The investment comes to reaffirm12k Energy’s commitment to Zambia.

South Africa-based 12k Energy Group has disclosed that its 2.6 billion US dollar investment for the establishment of a battery manufacturing company in Mansa district, a manufacturing plant for electric school buses and entry level electric vehicles in Rufunsa district will commence in June this year.
Group Chief Executive Officer Professor Blessings Chitsenga has also pledged the firm’s commitment to supporting Zambia’s energy sector.
Professor Chitsenga disclosed that the firm will also be setting up its southern African regional Head Quarters in Lusaka, which will be responsible for the administrative operations of subsidiaries in Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and South Africa.
“In June we will be laying our foundation stones in Rufunsa together with the Luapula Province in Mansa for 12k battery firm and Lusaka is also going to see a further building coming up just to house our regional head office,” he revealed.
He described the decision to locate the southern African regional Head Quarters in Lusaka as a commitment to the country for its user-friendly investment climate.
“This investment comes to support the strong growth of the company in Southern Africa and reaffirms 12k Energy’s commitments to this country. We began operations here more than 5 years ago and currently we have 7 branches distributed throughout Southern Africa.
“The new facilities will have 1,000 m² and, in addition to housing 12k Energy’s regional headquarters in Southern Africa it will also serve as an additional area for the company’s subsidiary in Zambia. The deadline for completion is scheduled for late 2023,” Professor Chitsenga said.
Professor Chitsenga further said the Group’s strategic vision is to play a part in the actualization of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area that challenges the private sector in Africa to seize the opportunities the initiative presents.
“12K Energy Group, in operation for over ten years, specializes in power generation, renewable energy and the manufacture of electric vehicles.”
Recently, the company announced a 2.6 billion US dollar investment that will see a battery manufacturing company in Mansa district set up, a manufacturing plant for electric school buses and entry level electric vehicles in Rufunsa district, in addition to an electric vehicle manufacturing plant that will also be opened in Botswana.
