13 fined for illegally operating pharmacies

• 13 people of Lusaka District have been fined for operating pharmacies without Certificates of Registration.
• The highest fine is K10, 000.

Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) says 13 people in Lusaka have been convicted and fined for illegal operation of drug stores.
Authority Senior Public Relations Officer Christabel Iliampu disclosed to Money FM News that the 13 convicts have been operating pharmacies without Certificates of Registration issued by the Authority, adding that the highest fine is K10, 000.
Mrs. Iliampu stated that ZAMRA remains committed to ensuring that only licensed and authorized pharmaceutical outlets are allowed to operate.
“I wish to confirm that 13 people of Lusaka District in Lusaka Province have been convicted and fined for operating pharmacies without Certificates of Registration issued by the Authority contrary to Section 14(1) of the Medicines and Allied Substances Act (3) of 2013, the highest fine being K10, 000.”
“The Authority remains resolute and committed to ensuring that only those Pharmaceutical outlets that are licensed and authorized are operational, this is important in ensuring that public and animal health is protected and safeguarded,” she said.
