2019-2020 forecast above normal rainfall.

The Ministry of Transport and Communication says the 2019-2020 forecast indicates that Zambia is likely to receive normal to above normal rainfall.
Addressing the media in Lusaka today, Minister in Charge Mr. Mutotwe Kafwaya indicates that there is however a likelihood of dry spells around February especially over the Southern half of Zambia.
“Generally, model analysis indicates that much of Zambia is likely to receive Normal to Above Normal rainfall during the 2019/2020 rainfall season” Mr. Kafwaya.
Mr. Kafwaya adds that the upcoming rainy season is expected to lead to increased chances of floods in flood prone areas.
He explains that between October and December there are chances that Zambia may start to receive rainfall except for the North-eastern areas like Isoka district.
Above normal: rainfall greater than 125% of the average for the period between October, November and December and from January, February and March.
Normal: rainfall between 75% and 125% of the average for the period from October, November and December and from January, February and March.
Below normal: rainfall less than 75% of the average for the period October, November and December and from October, November and December.
