FRA procures 700,000mt of crops

The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has so far procured over 700, 000 metric tonnes of crops from the farmers during this crop marketing season.

And the agency has reassured the nation that Zambia is food secured.

Speaking in an interview with Money FM News via telephone, FRA Chairperson Joe Simachela says the agency has also started paying the farmers who have supplied their crops to the agency.

“What is important to note is the fact that Zambia is food secured. We have enough maize in our reserves and people should not worry about anything,” he has assured.

Mr. Simachela maintains that the price at which the agency is buying maize from the farmers is not a maize floor price but that a price at which the government is buying the maize from the farmers.

He says it is pleasing that the private sector has also moved in numbers trying to buy the maize from the farmers saying this is because Zambia has a liberalized economy.
