No Country can prosper on Tax alone – CTPD

The Centre for Trade Policy and development (CTPD) says no country can develop by depending on taxes from their citizens.
CTPD Head of Programs Brian Mwiinga has charged that most Zambians are failing to improve their Lives at Household level because of the tax burden that has been put on them.
He adds that government is failing to meet its budget for Social services because the money being mobilized is not sufficient.
Mr. Mwiinga says the tax base in the country is too narrow and should be broadened by taxing sectors that have not been contributing to the treasury through taxes.
He says in an interview that this will make it easy for the government to mobilise domestic resources.
According to the Zambia Revenue Authority Website, all profit making persons have an obligation to pay Income tax on their profits.
Similarly, all individuals in employment have an obligation under the Income Tax Act to pay tax on their emoluments.
The Zambian Government has in recent months increased the taxes and taxable areas of the citizens, reportedly as a way to raise revenue for the national treasury.
