Zambia still needs IMF support – Economist

A Lusaka based economist says that Zambia still needs the support from the International Monitoring Fund (IMF) to avoid falling into debt trap.
A team of the IMF is expected in Zambia in the current fiscal quarter for Article Four Consultations with Zambian authorities.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News Herryman Moono says the IMF loan is very important for the country’s economic activities.
Mr. Moono says the Zambian government has to be open with IMF on why it needs the loan and how it will be used to restructure the country’s economy.
He says the reason of getting the loan from the IMF is for the country to restructure the economy and avoid in the current debt situation.
He says the reason why Zambia did not strike a deal with IMF on the two attempts is because the Zambian government did not provide adequate information on the country’s debt stock.
