Harmonize trade barriers between Zambia, Tanzania – Cross borders

The Southern Africa Cross Border Traders Association says there is need to harmonize trade between Zambia and Tanzania.
The association says the Tanzania Zambia Railways Limited (TAZARA) has always been hard in terms of providing transport to both Zambians and Tanzanians that are doing business.
Unionized workers at TAZARA have continued with their strike to press for payment of their three month salary arrears.
The strike has paralyzed movement of both goods and passenger trains on the Zambian side forcing management to step-in to move locomotives between Kapiri Mposhi and Nakonde railway terminus.
Association Secretary General Jacob Makambwe has told Money FM News in an interview that the association once found that most business people are not able to move their goods between the two countries.
Mr. Makambwe says although the organization has not been able to access the challenges that the strike by TAZARA workers has caused on the small-scale traders from both countries, it is imperative that trade between the two countries are harmonized.
He says, this being one of the most affordable way of transporting goods for both countries, it is possible that it has caused a lot of challenges to those who trade using this mode of transport.
Mr. Makambwe says the association will not underestimate challenges which may have been caused by this strike.
