Blacklisting contractors will promote quality infrastructure – NAMSC

The National Association for Medium and Small-Scale Contractors says the move by the National Construction Council (NCC) to black list 8 construction firms in the country is a good step in promoting quality infrastructure in the country.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM news Association President Mutale Mpepo says (NCC) has urged contractors in the country to adhere to the set standards by the regulator.
He says it is only when contractors adhere to the set regulations that the country will have quality buildings.
The National Construction Council (NCC) black listed 8 construction companies last week for various offences.
In another development, the National Association for Medium and Small-Scale Contractors says government should continue working to pay contractors working on the Zambia-Botswana bridge.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News Association President Mutale Mpepo says the bridge is of great importance to Zambia and Botswana as it will trade and economic activities between the two countries.
He says when carrying out construction works, contractors spend a lot of money to procure building materials hence the need to pay them on time.
Last week the Ministry of finance released 136 million Kwacha to the national road fund agency to dismantle arrears related to road projects and other related activities.
Finance Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe said with the funding, the National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) is expected to pay ZMW 28 Million for the ongoing works at the Kazungula bridge project, a multi-million bilateral project on the north-south corridor, on the border between Zambia and Botswana.
