The British American Tobacco (BAT) Zambia Plc has refuted media reports naming the organization in a 718 million dollars Tax Fraud alleging that it avoids taxes in Zambia.
Company Secretary Valentine Kabonga says the claims are unproven and has described them as damaging.
Mr. Kabonga says his organisation’s total tax contributions total 640.1 million Kwacha, inclusive of excise, duty and corporate tax.
He says in a statement that the this makes the BAT one of Zambia’s most significant corporate taxpayers.
The organization Secretary says BAT has operated responsibly in Zambia since its incorporation in 1963 and fully complies with all applicable tax legislations.
BAT Zambia is listed on the Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE) and has minority shareholders.
