July inflation expected to surge upwards

A local Economist has noted that the inflation rate for the month of July 2019 is expected to slightly edge upwards from the 8.6 percent recorded for the month of June 2019.
Noel Nkhoma says the expectation is in consideration of the announced maize prices at which the Food Reserve Agency will be buying Maize from farmers.
Mr. Nkhoma says the price will be a clear input into the inflation index for the month.
According to Statistics from the Central Statistical Office (CSO) inflation rate for the month of June 2019 increased to 8.6 from the 8.1 recorded in May 2019.
