Suspended Inter-country power trade doom for Zambia.

An Energy Expert says despite the electricity deficit in the country, Zambia is unable to cut inter-country power trade because of outstanding Power Supply Agreements (PSAs).
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Yotam Mtayachalo said: “the country’s power utility company needs to meet obligations outlined in its PSA with countries such as Malawi and the Democratic Republic of Congo which if suspended will mean a breach of contract.”

“A breach of contract will have a negative impact on the nation, hence ZESCO has the responsibility to meet outside electricity demand,” He said.

Mr Mtayachalo’s comment comes in following complaints from members of the public regarding the continued supply of electricity to other countries despite the energy deficit the nation is currently experiencing.
