Safe, Clean water Government’s priority

• President Edgar Lungu has prioritized provision of clean and safe water.
• This is in line with the Vision 2030 of universal access without leaving anyone behind.

Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Minister says President Edgar Lungu has prioritized the provision of clean and safe water as well as adequate sanitation services in order to improve the livelihood of the people in the country.
Speaking when he toured National Water Supply and Sanitation Council (NWASCO) Raphael Nakachinda said this is in line with the Vision 2030 of universal access without leaving anyone behind.
Mr Nakachinda said the Council is critical in ensuring that the water utility companies provide services to all in order to meet the aspiration of the Vision 2030.

And Mr. Nakachinda explained that he will be engaging his counterparts from the Ministry Lands and Natural Resources and Local Government to ensure that when people apply for land, part of the cost should include that of Water and sanitation services.
“The move will improve on both planning and provision of social services,” he said.
Meanwhile, NWASCO Director, Kelvin Chitumbo disclosed that the provision of services to the underprivileged is at the core of the institution.
He informed the Minister that a framework has been developed which will guide Water Utilities to start providing water and sanitation services to rural areas this year.
