GEARS Initiative urges law enforcement agencies to compliment PAC

• PAC should be complimented by other law enforcement agencies.
• People misusing and misappropriating public funds to be dealt with in accordance with the law.
• Cases of misappropriation of public finances in the country is alarming.

Governance, Elections, Advocacy, and Research Services (GEARS) Initiative has urged law enforcement agencies to ensure people who misuse and misappropriate public funds are dealt with in accordance with the law once exposed by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Organization Executive Director MacDonald Chipenzi said PAC should be recommended by other law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute suspects in order to uphold democratic accountability in the country.
“We have many institutions that should deal with these irregularities in the country,” he said.
“Other law enforcement agencies should move in to deal with the alleged irregularities because the Public Accounts Committee cannot be the police, prosecutor and jury at the same time.”
Mr. Chipenzi noted that the number of cases involving misappropriation of public finances is alarming, hence the need for the law to be applied effectively on all perpetrators of such crimes.
He has since commended the Committee for continuing to bring out issues of misappropriation and misuse of public resources by some institutions and workers in the country.
“Let them continue exposing such cases in the country so that they can be dealt with,” he said.
