A Non-governmental Organization has called for a strong partnership between Government and Non-government Organizations in supporting youth led projects across the country.
World Youth and Leadership Foundation Director General Nalishebo Nyambe told Money FM News that this is to ensure that the country reduces Youth unemployment levels, political violence, drug and alcohol abuse.
Mr. Nyambe noted that Zambia is one of the countries in southern Africa that has been facing high youth unemployment levels with the young people being the majority of the general population standing at 52.5% as indicated by Zambia Statistics Agency.
He said government and non-government organizations must support most youth led projects and provide an open-door policy for them to access financial support.
“Since independence, Zambia has been politically free without any record of war, making it a good country for its citizens to participate in economic development and archive economic freedom.”
“Therefore, we are appealing to the government and non-government organizations to support most youth led projects and provide an open-door policy for youth led organizations to access financial support if youths are to partner with Government in the fight against youth unemployment levels, drugs and alcohol abuse among other vices in the country,” Mr. Nyambe said.
Mr. Nyambe further advised the youth to shift their focus and venture in economic developmental activities and strive to become self-reliant.
“In recognition of the increasing number of youth unemployment levels, political violence, drug and alcohol abuse among other challenges making youths to be unproductive, the World Youths and leadership Foundation which is a youth driven movement is calling on all the youths to shift their focus and venture in economic developmental activities and strive to become self-reliant.”
